And so Bitcoin loses yet another person who invested nearly a decade learning its intricacies so that they can meaningfully contribute. At this rate we’re not gonna have anyone left who’s qualified working on Bitcoin. Wonder how much people will love it when the chain randomly splits because of poorly-maintained code. At least lightning security was improved 10x in the interim, I suppose.

mergear el polémico opreturn no creo haya sido un trabajo de calidad en caso de duda mejor no tocar imagino que para el futuro ai-coders lo podrán mantener
Wow this thread is a "target-rich" environment for the Mute button... But seriously has she offered reasons why she's leaving? I'm only tangentially involved in Bitcoin core development... I assume this is related to the OP_RETURN wars, but what has she said?
Probably doesn’t want to be associated with the Epstein dev team
I'm thankful to Gloria for her contributions; it was just obvious she wasn't happy. Glad to see she's making this move to get herself to a better place & looking forward to seeing who'll step up to fill the void 🙏
I get the sense you’re trying to make an excuse for this loss, but there’s really no excuse. The Bitcoin community just sucks. She’s very very far from the only person who has been driven away over stupid drama over many years, and that’s a major loss for Bitcoin. We’d be much further along with those people involved.
Saying "the Bitcoin community is filled with absolute shitheads". Is something that many long standing members of that community who are NOT shitheads feel sums up much of core's attitude towards the users. The only difference between what you dislike Gloria having to face vs what you just said about the users is you know her. But you don't know me. Or the other millions of users that contribute to the community you say is full of shitheads.

🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣 imagine typing this into your keyboard with a straight face 😂😂😂😂😂
If you can’t recognize outright harassment as “shithead” behavior, then you’re just an idiot. There’s a huge gap between disagreement over a decision and harassing someone.

That's really sad, but good for her she knows when to stop.
Without necessarily agreeing or disagreeing with your perspective on the community, I'm curious if you think this behavior has gotten better or worse in the past 5 years or so, i.e. the 2020s vs the 2010s? My own perception is that the culture ~10 years ago was pretty different, but at the same time I'm not sure how much better it would have been for a woman in the space at that time...
It seems to continue to get worse. There was a time when the fights were over relevant topics and were less harassment and more deep disagreements over things people cared incredibly much about. Then it was just about attacking “shitcoiners”, sometimes for good reason sometimes less so. Now it’s just about attacking and harassing other bitcoiners because they’re not “pure” enough. That’s been true for a number of years but it just seems to be over dumber and dumber things every six months.
She divided the ‚community‘ and lost major share of being the reference implementation over some bullshit technical change. Major blow to her employer over nothing. She should have walked it back slowly, and give the community to think about it. But she was pushy and being rude. Typical smug dev attitude. bitcoin will be just fine without any of you core devs. That‘s why it‘s called open source.
Remember the ‚And this Satoshi spake, not in dec but in hex‘ post of her? There is no doubt that she was clearly in favor of this and draw the whole attention (maybe by accident?) on her character. All in all, it was a non issue and she kept pushing unwanted updates down the users throats. I do not want her to be bullied and hacked - that is clearly some insane stuff. But it‘s one of the first rules you get taught in the seminars at chaincode:‘Consider to stay anonymous‘. Real bitcoiners and cypherpunks at least TRY to do this. And we need the core maintainers to be this kind of security psychopaths. I don‘t know shit about Wladimir and others. And that is good for exact above mentioned reasons.
I'm way ahead of you 😜. When I look at posts like yours, I see very few retarded replies, and that's because I've already blocked many of them It's true that they still add more bots, but it's easy to block them quickly
She should never have been harassed. It is disgusting behavior. In general, people on both sides of this debate should try to make the effort to consider that some on other side disagree not because they are compromised child rapists or retarded un-technical idiots but because there are trade offs
And yes, calling us idiots is also in the same exact thing I'm talking about. And why would I not recognize that shitheads were having a terrible impact on Gloria? Of course, I recognize that. She was being torn down in social media, mocked, ridiculed, and worse. And maybe it seems to you from your vantage that that's just the Bitcoin community. But I don't accept that. And it may seem that I'm pedantic. And at least needing to hear when this kind of thing is said, "a subset of", maybe even "a minority" of the Bitcoin community is this way. Very vocal and very wrong. But it's not just that black and white frame. I think it's every Bitcoiners right as a human being to be able to speak what they believe and even to disapprove of what seemed to be some core beliefs of someone that handles the most important code in the world. It's possible for me, for example, to both be saddened that we did indeed lose what was obviously an extremely bright mind but at the same time, hopeful that the people who step up to fill that role will a line more closely with what I and many other Bitcoiners want to see from a philosophical view.
Well, that isn't what I would have said, but you've already had your discussion with that fictitious version of me. I'm just going to assume that that is the idiot shithead version of me. And you should understand, I think I have a reasonable grasp on why you would jump to such conclusions, because you've seen it over and over and over again, just like Gloria saw the shitheads and all the abuse that she was having to take, some of which was vile. And that experience will color the way you interact with people that you don't know because you're playing against some kind of median version of the community. I did not like her laissez-faire attitude around Bitcoin being in the eye of beholder, what you use it for, whether that's cat pictures or whatever. And we could go from here to talking past each other really quick. Because I do understand that there is currently little to be done to stop the things that I do not consider financial transactions and I understand that ultimately what is a valid Bitcoin transaction is fully in the eye of the beholder. In the end, the important parts of the argument have less to do with cat pictures or the sensational child porn worries. They have to do with minimizing the attack surface. And there's disagreement on what that means and how to do it. That doesn't make me a misogynist and idiot or a shithead. But I am a long time Bitcoiner and a member of this community.
I mean obviously we disagree but this conversation was never about whether that’s right or wrong. In fact I’m happy to see people disagreeing without assuming bad intent! My point above was that comments like “I hope the next wave of Bitcoin developers agree with me instead”, which you made above, are pretty shitty. If you want to see a wave of Bitcoin developers that agrees with you, do something about it! Either contribute yourself or help find new developers. Slipping in sideways celebration that someone contributing a ton to Bitcoin was driven out by harassment at the end of a comment isn’t gonna inspire anyone to work on it, and worse it’s just gonna discourage people who might have wanted to bring in the next wave of developers to give up because who wants to bring in more people just for them to suffer absurd harassment?
First you misquoted me, you put quotes around a phrase I never said. And the thing that you misquoted is right after I said I feel like Bitcoin lost someone who was good. I will wrap this up and start battering you because I don't see us coming to any kind of connection here. You are also projecting a whole lot of shit onto me that's not there in the first place. And you're basically saying that because I hope that people who fill roles on the Bitcoin core team are aligned with values and ideals that I hold it makes me a shithead. And it seems to me the difference between us is I'm willing to accept you and your viewpoints and have challenging, constructive conversations with you without calling your names or speaking down to you. But you're not going to do the same for me. For some reason, you feel justified in calling me a shithead because of an opinion I hold. It is what it is and it basically makes my point.. and you can call me whatever you like.
