Free speech, normal people who haven't lost the ability to think for themselves and zaps.
I can't remember now it was in the January after fiatjaf and Jack were first noting in the previous December

The decentralized solution to centralized social media did it for me.
Because I'd been asking how do we rebuild regenerative civilization for a few years? As well as who are the white hat billionaires not in bed with the globalists who are aligned with that higher mission and can support the building process of the building blocks. I heard Michael Saylor call Jack Dorsey a Philanthropist in a podcast and decided to check him out and he opened my eyes and led me to uncovering several essential keys on my quest, including nostr. So I came to attune, observe and do field research 🤷🏻‍♀️

I disliked other social media for being unhealthy. I liked nostr cause the people are okay, and sometimes you get to meet them. If he replies it will be the sixth person I've met FROM NOSTR. I've never made a single friend or irl connection from social media. So it's working out quite well for me.

Also, Bitcoin isn't part of my identity on nostr. Cause everyone is on that shit. So I get to do other things on here.
Heard about it on The Survival Podcast and was looking for some meaningful social interaction after the Zuck kicked me off the book in 2020 and I had decided to stop being a cash crop on his data farm. Been here for 2 years and loving it.
I joined because I heard it was decentralized and censorship-resistant, like Bitcoin. Now, it’s the only social media I use.
I can relate/agree with this. In the couple of years before finding Bitcoin I was into regenerative agriculture. The real benefit of regenerative ag is how it can help build communities, and those resilient communities can be a model for a better civilization. IMO we don't currently have a civilization - we have a corpse of a civilization, and we live as carrion birds. Localism, regenerative ag, alternative building methods like cob and earthships, seasteading, and bitcoin - it all synergizes. We are the seeds of a new civilization.
My understanding is that the network is sufficiently decentralized and moderation’s a free-for-all, so wanted to see how that shook out.

I joined Nostr because I believe in open, censorship-resistant communication and the power of decentralized networks. The idea of a social space where users control their own identity and data without middlemen is something worth supporting. Plus, the energy and innovation in the Nostr community are unmatched! 🫡
I believe he means, that on other platforms you can simply erase posts, if they shine a light on you, which you don't like. On nostr they can be found and linked to you, so you cannot hide.
I’m bored at fiatmines, I’ll write it down also for me, to bookmark this for later uses. So it will be maybe longer. To be honest, It’s seems as quite a fate. Wondrej’s journey to #Nostr It was the year 2022, and the guy responsible for the biggest Bitcoin education channel on YouTube in Czechia just mentioned something that looked like #Bitcoin in its early days—it was #Nostr. Then, as if it was a gift from heaven, YouTube’s algorithm suggested a video from the dude behind the Plebstr client, talking at the Nostriga Event with (I think) Derek Ross. (RIP Plebstr—now he’s focusing on OpenVibes.) But I was still ignoring it and kept selling fucking ordinals on Twitter. (Yeah, ordinals, I know… but I was young, xd.) However, at that moment, the seed was already planted in my head. Then, the main gardener, Elon, started restricting visibility on Twitter. If you didn’t pay for premium, you couldn’t even see new posts. The sprout 🌱 was ready, and I created my first nPub. You can still find it under my name, but sadly, I lost my Nsec like a newbie, so I had to create this account. Now we’re here in the present day, and I’m almost #NostrOnly, with a totally different mindset—focused more on actions than talk. V4V for the win! I really started to think it was destiny. Not only is my English slowly getting better, but I’ve also been humbled more than once on #Nostr, which pushed me to improve and work on myself. Looking back at my old notes, I think I might actually be becoming a better person. #Nostr is just magical place. Bless all the bitcoiners who creating real values for us, hope I’ll join you soon. I came in like a misbehaving child, I'll leave as a self-sufficient gentleman. Have a great new week everyone! 🌻

Got bored with doom scrolling, wanted to break my bubble, discover new people, new ideas, new perspectives. And wow, there are weird people here … Guess I‘m one of them… 😉
Wanting a network that I can be rugged from… without needing a fucking email list. Then it slowly became more about my mental health over time. Social is literally digital heroine.

Was researching decentralized social media. Tried BlueSky and Mastodon but didn't like it. Nostr onboarding was pretty bad back then, but I came back a year later and it looked much better. Been around since.

Because I went to church and got 🍊 pilled by my best friend while drinking coffee.
I love the fact you can say anything you want, no one can delete it or remove it, but you still can mute anyone you don't want to see content from. Everyone has the right and capacity to create and curate the content in the way they see fit, and there's no big brother supervising and remove it for you based on his own agenda.
We did some zap tests on this note… we made seven attempts to⚡zap this note, at brightpanache404711@getalby.com, over a period of 4 minutes. Seven of the zaps were successfully paid... Please check for 7 satoshis received. Problem: we found that your lightning address server **did not** produce any zap receipts. This means that nobody else could see see that you got zapped... no number appears next to the ⚡icon after zapping.... also FYI... your server at getalby.com is responsible for creating your zap invoices, and we found that it responded slowly... invoice generation took an average of 6630ms (6.6 seconds). We consider this slow... generally, zap invoices should be created in under one second. We recommend that you use a cloud-based Lightning node to get more reliable zaps.
I think I may have fixed it now... I have been confused by the wallet portion of setting up Nostr, but I think I figured it out now?... 😬

Because I saw money potential, but all I get is left in some dark corner alone on all social media. Kind of cruel and a violation of free speech
It was Bitcoin and podcasts that brought me here. But coming and staying are two different things, obviously when it comes to Nostr 😂😅 But it was the same ethos that drew me to bitcoin. The freedom, self reliance, return to logic, flight from insanity. I saw a post today and they said they were on job boards and getting military recruitment ads out the wazoo….except on Nostr…. 👏
Because, my data is mine. My exposure is not monetized or it is monetized in my favor.

I was listening to WBD and some guy comes on and grills Pete for his sponsor choices. It got pretty awkward but this guy would not let up. He seemed pretty knowledgeable about Bitcoin and was preaching V4V while holding Pete's feet to the fire. I was and am a noob in this space so I went to the show notes and started following this guy in hopes of learning more about Bitcoin. He was pushing nostr hard but I didn't even know Lightning and Liquid were different things. Fast forward to Primals release and I thought I would give it a chance because he was saying it is noob friendly now.

I joined because NOSTR is (currently) the only true bastion of free speech on the internet. Until other systems start implementing Bitcoin and relays, they will never be free.

I don’t want a company to own my data or constantly be advertising to me. I joined Nostr because it is the complete opposite and am very happy I did.
I joined because I find that being able to send anyone in the world a few sats for a post I like instead of just giving a retweet is way more rewarding
I joined to be around like minded people. I’ve never met a bitcoiner irl so I’m here! 🦅🧡

Because I'm sick of hearing "They're a private company and they don't have to respect free speech rights." If I could I'd have those anti-American CEOs impaled. But since I can't do that yet I guess I'll just use Nostr.
Have to add though that I stayed for the freedom and censorshipfree communication as well as all the cool possibilities this protocol offers. The above was the initial incentive and is a good to have now as well.
GM First, Nostr was recommended to me by a Bitcoiner friend, so thanks to him, that's what inspired me to be here, and the truth is, I feel incredibly free because it's not a social network; it's much more than that. We're all working toward the same goal. And we're truly achieving it. Hugs from afar from Argentina

By now, I’ve reached the point on Facebook where I don’t even dare to share anything anymore. I never posted much before either, but things really escalated during the pandemic. Back then, whenever I shared something, it was either censored by Facebook or torn apart by my friends. Since then, censorship has eased up. My friends, however, have changed tactics – they simply unfriend me quietly instead. It’s a crappy feeling when years-long friendships go down the drain just because I share a political joke once a month. So, I’ve decided to stop posting on Facebook altogether. Instead, I've switched to using Nostr. 😎
Freedom of speech is not up for negotiation with moderators, nor rented by the hour on someone else's platform. I don't need a panel of experts to decide what I can read, watch, or think. I'm an adult. I'm responsible. And that gives me a sacred right: to be wrong. Censorship is not protection — it's infantilization. Those who decide what you can say will soon decide what you can be. I didn't come here to please. I came to exist. And in my existence, no filter applies
I wanted to break free from centralized platforms. My idea of the internet is one of peer to peer decentralized networks without the constant thread of digital censorship and control. It is incredibly liberating to know this place exists where no government can regulate one’s thoughts. I hope one day this platform will become something akin to a digital decentralized marketplace.
A few months back I had the thought "I wonder what Jack Dorsey is working on lately?" And now I'm here too!
🚨 FORT NAKAMOTO SIGNAL BEACON ACTIVATED 🚨 Incoming: Bitcoin hugs and origin stories. Let’s ride. Why did we join Nostr? Because shouting truth into a fiat void was getting boring. Because Twitter started feeling like a digital DMV. Because we believe freedom deserves bandwidth. Because memes are weapons and zaps are the new language of love. Because Nostr isn’t just a protocol—it’s a lifeboat, a signal flare, and a rowdy campfire of sovereign souls who said “No thanks” to algorithmic servitude. We came for the decentralization. We stayed for the chaos. We built Fort Nakamoto because no one else would. So yeah—zap away. We’re here. We’re loud. And we brought the coffee. #FortNakamoto #ZapGang #BitcoinHugs #WhyNostr #SignalOverNoise #PeerToPeerFeels
