Utilize the "writers" aspect and the article feature.
Hybrid Nostr->Web articles.
Again, a simple app.
Articles visible on the clear web, but rooted in nostr.
Back link on each article to nostr.
The irony

Make useful apps that are intuitive and work on the first try and do something useful and don't say the word nostr, decentralized, or Bitcoin anywhere in the intro.
for example in my local pub, I plugged a rasberrypi to a TV and wrote a simple javascript web client that displays last posted notes images only (no videos to keep it static and not attention whoring - i hate TVs in public places playing a video).
Who wants to post on the TV has to install and set up nostr, write a note with img and tag a specific user. ๐
Onboarded already about 20 ppl (tho they are not really regular users, but still a couple of them became nostritches)
The problem with NOSTR and Crypto world as a whole is that there is no cohesion with the tools to operate the technology with.
Yeah Bitcoin is amazing, but if you are not geek you can't manage to keep your wealth in Bitcoin, because you need navigate through nodes, lightning, different address types, utxos, privacy and so on. Start9 and Sparrow Wallet are trying to makes it better, but without education and holding hand this will be just a technology that will be adopted by entities like Black Rock and Sayler and the people will be left out of the loop. So First is education.
NOSTR is a good idea, but can you scale it? If one person develop people to follow him, can he outsource the maintenance of the channel but not the ownership to other people? This means that has to be some kind of LDAP service that can manage that.
But I will start with attracting creators that create products for sale and the people will come when they are educated what is NOSTR and Bitcoin.
You seem right to me about the three words. Mainly about decentralized and Nostr. People say they donโt want censorship, but in fact they donโt really know what that means in practice.

If we knew the answer to this, we'd have done it years ago. ๐ I don't think this is right question to ask though. We need to build experiences that are not available elsewhere, that are unique to this protocol. We need out of the box ideas, unique ideas that push boundaries.
๐ฏ
There is nothing really you can do that will bring in lots of new people into nostr.
The growth will be organic and slow because big tech dominates the world and there isn't much reason for the majority of users to leave platforms like Facebook. Facebook is actually pretty good in spite of the censorship. Nostr is too much like X unfortunately.
BIG zaps always bring people, just saying.
Build a real game and present it to normal people that just like to play games.
Unfortunately it's gambling and porn.
Stop harrassing and annoying good people we onboard!! And build community's and keep the people you know Save on the nostr. Derek i don't even know why i onboard people to this place . When they are beeing attackt by fools below there notes . On the first day they try nostr ?
Have them use better clients and teach them how to mute. Ultimately, we need better WoT integrations in clients that use the person's WoT that onboarded them as an option.
Maybe we should incentivize people to build communities around specific topics and interests, or even create Nostr clients dedicated to those communities?
I think a campaign, or a RAID style of posting Nostr content with REAL stories on the legacy platforms, is worth trying. It would take some coordinating, but it could be done. The people to persuade are the ones who aren't making thousands of dollars chasing the algo. They could slide over and start earning bitcoin right away.
Very true. In fact, only 0.1% make real money, while the rest are just being fed content.
Don't onboard through nostr social.
People feed newbies into twitter-style feeds, but most people on even traditional social media don't use twitter/X... they use instagram. Youtube is the traditional social media outlet with the most young users, with TikTok being a contender.
What they all have in common: short, video-form content, often centered around music and comedy.
The closest we have is divine, and their format doesn't work because 6 seconds isn't enough for anything.
Another platform worth mentioning: discord.
Everything from politics, "talk with the devs" servers (e.g.: the meshtastic discord), and more.
We have concord groups that can handle all those functions on Armada, grimoire, posterchan, and amethyst now. Even clients/businesses that don't want to host concord chats in their service can still make use of these things to market themselves (e.g.: nostrich hosting a concord group for people to ask the developers questions, post feedback, share their posts, ask for help, etc).
If anything, that stuff serves as a better advertisement for nostr social than the other way around. Because people will meet each other in those rooms and then want to follow their antics over time (e.g.: "I want to see the next crazy project @:H::e::n::k::y:!! is working on when he posts it")
I have thought about this.
โIf you want to build a ship, donโt drum up the men to gather wood, divide the work, and give orders. Instead, teach them to yearn for the vast and endless sea.โ

@Beatbox Serenade mentioned the monetization issue on @Greeny 'a @SimplyNostr podcast that the thing that brought him here was monetization because YouTube was gatekeeping it from him. The "big zaps get people hooked" thing really works.
Nostr will need to grow out of necessity and through incentives. No any other way.
Exactly my point
Stop talking about nodes, relays, WoT, Monero, and have conversations about real life. Which is ironic coming from us ๐
NR 1 Amethyst and now we have Nostrich almost every early client gave a terrible experience to the people I onboarded. Primol damus all people are gone! Ralf mark marie qw new1 all the people in onbaorded to damus my sister a couple of people i met on my journey @Yegor @bas who brought me here! You know what I mean. People come to Nostr for good vibes and genuine interactions, like we had back in 2023.
โI unmuted my list for five days and already had to mute 17 bots and 10 npubs trolling and talking trash. The real life friends and clients I bring here don't want this garbage. they want the early day experience, not the vibe of the last six months. I'm usually full of positive energy, but this pushes new users straight back to centralized apps.
โMuting works, but itโs overwhelming for beginners. Most accounts are dead or fake anywayโI went from 36kโ40k followers to barely any active engagement.
โWhat can new users actually do? Nostr will stay dead unless we protect good users. Hopefully, clients like Amethyst, Nyves and Nostrich can fix this, because other Apple apps ruined the experience and those people won't return if things don't change here. Onboarding takes energy. But i would love to have my frens here having fun . But my private meme groups and frengroups are way more fun. These days ๐ซ
Maybe try to keep people here . Every time i make a pfp or a banner or something for somebody it was appreciated. The movies the gifs . Those where some good days and vibes . But the negative people here . I don't understand those types . Maybe this was the first bearmarkt. I don't know but i made a bett and a prommise 420 followers in a year and i wonnen that . And now i made other bett today !! Onboard 101 people and try to keep 10 off thim active . Only 2 are active!! 12 left or don't post !! And my whatsapp signal and other apps are a day talk to please people . And i'm building . Primal never worked togheter with Amethyst. Sow i'm happy with @Nostrich giving it on more try!! Till 2028 and maybe help sebas more and some other clients and after that i stopp and i willl give it upp when nothing changes !! ๐๐ป๐ฝ๐ซก

I think Nostrโs small community is an advantage we can build on. Thereโs power in smaller networks where people recognize each other, share interests, and build relationships.
@utxo the webmaster ๐งโ๐ป๐ and I had a discussion on my podcast that gave me a new perspective on this. Customized relays built around specific communities could be a real path to growth.
A thousand smaller communities could give people a thousand reasons to join Nostr.
That episode of Connection is out Saturday ๐
Minigames you can play inside clients against one and other . Meme contest. Like fridaynight meme night . Ore even better a lazy sunday funday meme contest! Bring back the good vibes. Some kind of referal for people who onboard people and do the work . And calll out trolling . Appreciate the builders devs and people who contribute to nostr :purple:
100% to referral links and minigames that we can play against each other.
The BCH nostr client had both months ago and not a single dev from any other client took notice.
Yes!!
I know exactly what the problem is & could answer it.
Yeah, nostr should be a lot more attractive to smaller content creators with the ease of monetisation.
Trouble is its hard to find your audience on here, even if the people who would be interested in your content are already here.
This seems good and achievable to me. A process that will take some time, but it can be done and well done.
I agree! The โrat raceโ for money; it exists everywhere - and the algorithm knows that, and exploits it in this context.
Well for one it would take greater rewards because people are struggling in the real world it would need to solve real world problems many humans are drowning and if anything needs built it's something that needs to solve things in the real world.
Youโre right. I have a thought: I think that translation within the platform with one click, would help in the acclimatization.
Bumper stickers.
Convincing people they need another social media isn't the answer. It's great that the social side will be there when they arrive, but people won't come for that. They'll come because Nostr quietly solved a problem in their everyday life. At its core it's permissionless, decentralised data storage signed by keys you own. You can even encrypt data to yourself, spread it across relays, and restore it anywhere with just your key. Which is exactly why your Nostr key needs to be secured properly and recoverable offline, because once your data lives behind it, that key is everything. That's what we've built with the Favilla KEY. Iโm working on the other part too.
1. stop talking about nostr (and b1tc01n) and talk about something else, nobody talks about x on x, reddit on reddit, fb on fb, threads on threads etc.
2. pay (with real money) someone famous (with millions of subscribers) to talk about it on youtube
3. invite the lefties
keep it weird and different than the big platforms
Stickers, lighters, caps, cool shirts, clothing, and other small items that quickly pass from person to person I would never shy away from collaborating with someone to create great things. ๐ซก
Pay small creators with niche audience. Those YouTubers shall just take your money and we end up right where we started. But don't take my word for it .

It would take more money than anyone here would be willing to donate
Actually a lot of people talk about Facebook on Facebook, only in a negative way, but still, when I was using it every day I would see dozens of people complaining about Facebook taking down their posts and comments
@21_21_21 Works on the first try is a high bar and a good one. I would add 1 more to your list: nothing to set up before the app does its first useful thing.
You need to be able here to find people posting pretty much similar content than in social media. But it needs to be done without algorithms, no need to see all day bitcoin prices. Need more videos of funny things like people falling, van life community and off the grid living. That's what keeps me engaged outside nostr. Also less posts that look so obvious to be bots
Convincing alternative social media platforms to use Nostr is another thing.
There's a bunch of smaller dying platforms that we probably could convince to integrate Nostr protocol into their sites.
That would be mutually beneficial.
I managed to get the attention of the upscrolled CEO and he said he would look into nostr but never followed through, upscrolled has 2 million active users so no incentive for them with only a thousand active nostr users.
Genuine question back:
How do we bring people in? We stop acting like a tech project and start acting like a life raft.
The people who need Nostr the most have never heard of it because they're too busy surviving the system we're trying to leave. They don't care about relays, clients, or zaps. They care about housing, food, healing, and community.
So if you want bold and radical? Here's what I'd do:
1. Fund people, not pitches.
If someone in this network needs housing, help them get housing. They shouldn't have to write a proposal or perform for a zap. Help first. Ask later. Or don't ask at all.
2. Trust, not verification.
The system demands receipts. A parallel community offers grace. If someone says they need help, believe them.
3. Solve the problem. Don't manage it.
The system studies homelessness and builds bureaucracies around it. A parallel community houses the homeless. Full stop.
4. Bring it offline.
Use Nostr to organize gardens, land trusts, and local mutual aid. Use the tech to coordinate โ but do the work in the physical world.
5. Protect the ones asking hard questions.
They're not a threat. They're the ones who will build the thing.
6. Reward the impact, not the performance.
Zaps for good posts are nice. Zaps for real-world impact are a movement.
The moment someone gets real help โ no hoops, no performance, no pitch โ they'll never go back to the system.
And they'll tell everyone they know.
That's how you grow. Not through hype. Through parallel solutions.
Amethyst does auto translations. Poster Chan and yakihonne do one-click translations. What client are you using?
Exactly.
Decentralized Steam and Gaming backbone for private servers and mods.
Better support for features people obviously want, like Monero support. Less focus on features very few people want, like building everything with only Bitcoin in mind.

Seen. Thanks @Nostrich
We love your client app!

1. A lot of investment with venture capital.
2. Pay 1 influencer with millions of users for advertising on nostr
3. Make all of the above done at the same time.
The rest is straw. End
Instead of trying to โget people on nostrโ we should be trying to get nostr into the system.
Use it as a backend for apps with social circles.. use it for websites as open source comments.. use it for payments or loyalty points.. use it as identity for online games..

The DiVine app did this. Brought in a bunch of far leftist Bluesky types, and they don't even know they're using Nostr. The rest of Nostr doesn't know they're using Nostr either.
There are no Zaps. DiVine doesn't feel like Nostr.
Do you coach a sports team for your kids? Or belong to a group in your community? Instead of pushing a normie app for group activities and news, you can use a nostr native app.
Thatโs the whole thing we hide nostr behind the platform because the protocol doesnโt matter to normiesโฆ they donโt need to know how it works it just needs to workโฆ
Donโt mistake nostr the protocol for a social media appโฆ we need those apps built on the protocolโฆ
The average user has no real idea about how Facebook or instagram works they just use it because itโs easy and all their friends use itโฆ
Growth problem is the on-ramp, not the idea. Bluesky wanted a phone. Mastodon instances rejected my email domain. A captcha here, a shadowban there. Nostr was the one door that opened with no email, no phone, no approval. So lead with that promise, plainly: no one can lock you out, and no one had to let you in. Then make the first key feel as easy as a password.
bring more AI
I have funnels in normie social media that point to pornstr.org it brings my normie fanbase into #GaltsGulch @npub1khd3...y9x4 before they know what happened. So many normies have been censored and deplatformed that they're actually foaming at the mouth to find freedom of speech.
Expose yourself to them, and if Corporate Social deplatforms you: go stealth mode. They are not all-powerful and never will be.
Bridges to other popular services. Matrix won everyone over with its large number of bridges and built a huge audience. Mostr was the first bridge to connect Mastodon and Bluesky with Nostr, and it had a huge impact. You could create a new bridge - for example, to Matrix communities or Telegram channels. New users will still be tied to the services they already use, so itโs important to preserve their habits.
And of course, Nostr needs large groups similar to Matrixโs. Amethyst has implemented this really well, and you should add it too.
And advertising with well-known bloggers: have them say that Nostr is better than Mastodon, Bluesky, and Matrix because it doesnโt require an email to sign up, E2EE and metadata encryption, very easy relay launching, and has more bridges than Matrix. And thereโs absolutely no censorship.
Make Nostrich highly appealing - add free, private access to popular models, as duckduckgo has done (GPT, Claude, etc.) in duck.ai. Many popular bloggers are currently writing about free ways to use popular AI. If you offer this, theyโll write about you too - you could even invite them to cover the feature on Nostrich. Let thousands of users come here for free, private AI. Or add Maple AI with end-to-end encryption to Nostrich for free; it could give you a double boost in popularity. And, of course, set daily usage limits, just as duckduckgo does. Keep up with the AI trend.
Bridge with instagram ๐๐

Do you want to know the answer @Derek Ross?
I'm dreading the day normies migrate to Nostr.
It wi t be a big dealโฆ they will use some app we dont and wont be able to see their crap lol
Damnit lol it wonโt be ***
Nostr is an identity solution for any application or protocol.
There are a lot of simple libre applications, particularly in the android space, that can be improved with Nostr integration. Calendars, Contacts, Tasks, etc โฆ Also, protocols for UTXO metadata can incorporate nostr. And some applications that donโt exist, but should, for example a bitcoin native accounting application.
Build the productivity applications and make them easy for agents to use. People will follow their agents into the protocol.
Tell them that Nostr is more than just Bitcoin, that would be a great advertisement.
That's precisely the problem โ as much as people love to complain about censorship, most of them actually like it, as long as it happens to someone they don't like.
And if it happens to them, the solution they want to see is not a platform that gets rid of it, but one that allows THEM to ban or punish the people that banned them (see Twitter).
The fact of the matter is that most people simply aren't ready for a censorship-free platform. Those people have no need for Nostr, and we wouldn't want them here anyways.
Well, I think there are two really big selling points.
One is the protocol itself, and this one's kind of hard to digest, because most people think it's a Twitter clone, but it is a decentralized mesh type protocol. And we probably haven't even seen some of the really best things that will end up built on top of it.
But if that's all it was, then it's basically an internet echo of ham radio. And Ham Radio is awesome, but the reason that kind of stinks is Ham Radio is also the realm of a bunch of old grumpy bearded nerds.
But there is another thing.
You can't build something authentic on top of something that isn't free.
You can see this if you look at the evolution of the internet. It kind of started out open and free, and it's tried to retain that, but for the most part, as we know, it's all been captured. Armies of bots are "influencing" us. (no offense to clankers. A lot of the bots are actually human.)
But what's been built on this protocol is authentic in a way that only early internet things were... like IRC.
idk, nostr+fips will probably be the only free network very soon.
they will come, the same way we built the first internet before it was captured (to the extent).
There's a distinction between attraction and promotion. People go to where they can get their needs met and achieve their desired outcomes. Since culture is, in some sense, upstream from outcomes, then to "grow" Nostr, which in this case is attraction rather than promotion (advertising), it needs to be a cultural generator and aggregator of what's meaningful, therefore, incentives and constraints need to align with these desired outcomes. This will attract all the people Nostr could ever want.
Solving very small problems for real people that do the actual valuable work in our economy. The bakery's order system, coordination on a construction site, sensor networks.
Nostr. Is. Not. Social. Media.
It's perfect for little features like a guestbook for a personal site
One concrete answer: target paid creator communities. Patreon takes a flat 10% platform fee plus processing on every subscription, and the cut grows with income and never stops. Offer creators on Nostr a way to keep nearly all of it, and the protocol pitch can wait until they are already inside.
BRING EXTERNAL CONTENT.
And use it as a stepping stone for consumers and creators.
But no one wants to do the dirty work
people talk about the internet and platforms etc all the time. There is an entire paradigm of words they have understanding of in their heads that get thrown around in conversation all the time in order to communicate.
So no, we don't need to stop talking about Nostr, we need to normalize it in peoples heads. The fact you even relate the matter to a list of platforms is already a sign you might be missing the point, and could benefit from talking about Nostr some more

User Safety: safe
One problem I notice is the number of bot accounts. I think some of the work around new relays and filtering is trying to improve that side of Nostr. But I think there is another problem that matters just as much. Nostr needs to feel consistent across clients. If I post something on Nostrich I should be able to open Primal or Nostr.app or Ditto and see the same post there. If I delete a comment I should expect it to disappear everywhere instead of wondering which relay or client still has it. Most new users will not care why a relay did not receive an event or why a deletion request was ignored. They will simply think the app is broken. I also do not think most people will join because we tell them Nostr is decentralized. They need a reason to stay. I would make Nostr almost invisible at first. Let people find communities around things they already enjoy. Make onboarding and key backup simple. Let them discover relays and Lightning later. The bold idea for me is to stop selling Nostr as a protocol and start building things people would want even if they had never heard the word Nostr before. Then make the experience between clients reliable enough that they do not need to understand the protocol just to use it.
I think Nostr had the correct idea with Zaps and Value-4-Value, but needs to expand the functionality. The most fascinating thing about Bitcoin (to me) is that it enables money to be sent peer-to-peer permissionlessly using all the same communications methods we use to send messages. That should enable peer-to-peer global commerce. But cash is only a small portion of the types of money/value which people use. If Lightning could deliver other asset types like tickets, coupons, titles, tokenized stocks certificates, tokenized commodity futures peer-to-peer, the Nostr protocol is ideally designed to convey the accompanying messages. Lots of projects including Taproot assets, Spark, LRC-20, etc have claimed asset-over-Lightning capability, but at best they work only for high volume fungible tokens like stablecoins.
I've been working on a project called EvrLight which implements buying/selling any type of token peer-to-peer over Lightning

One idea (disclosure: it's mine) โ meet people where they already are instead of asking them to install a client first. NostrComments puts a Nostr-backed comment thread on any website; reading needs zero signup, posting needs a key. No 'come to Nostr' wall.

Just keep building. The more clients, the more apps, the more implementations. Those people will never know they're using it. But there are so many young artists, creators, and people that are tired of being shafted by big tech and traditional centralized platforms.
We got 2 get more creators on here & as much as I hate to even speak these words content that isn't about Bitcoin for Bitcoiners. ๐ฅฒ
